MANTRA MEANING

In this poem, Kabir compares the human body to an ancient stringed instrument (made from a gourd) called a tamboura. The overtones produced by the strings stimulate the Chakras and Microchakras.

Kabir stresses the importance of keeping the body in tune, like the strings of a tamboura. He futher stresses that in order for spiritual aspirants (sadhus) to be in tune, they must follow dharma (spiritual responsibilities). To maintain the tuning of the body, one needs a control similar to tightening of the begs of the tamboura. Then life resounds with the divine melody from within.

However, Kabir warns the sadhu not to be proud of this body/tamboura, since, one day, they will both fall victim to Time. Then, the Divine Force (HamSa) will fly away to the Divine melody that you truly are. Kabir adds: "Listen, O Sadhu, follow the True path, guided by the Guru."
